31. Sungai Jodoh - Kep. Bangka Belitung

In a village in Inner Batam Island, there lived a girl named Mah Bongsu. She has been an orphan and works as a maid at home Mah Piah. Mah Piah was an old lady who stingy and greedy. She has a daughter named Siti Mayang.

Mah Bongsu stunned. Instantly, the snake has been transformed into a dashing and handsome young man. His skin turned into a magnificent house and very beautiful. Then they get married and live happily.

That said, because of that incident, the village called Village Tiban which means got fortune. The river is called River Houses, as is believed to be the place to meet a mate.

Di sebuah desa di Pedalaman Pulau Batam, hiduplah seorang gadis bernama Mah Bongsu. Ia sudah yatim piatu dan bekerja sebagai pembantu  dirumah Mah Piah.  Mah Piah adalah seorang wanita tua yang kikir dan serakah. Ia mempunyai seorang anak perempuan bernama Siti Mayang.

Pada suatu hari, seperti biasa, Mah Bongsu pergi ke sungai untuk mencuci pakaian. Tiba-tiba seekor ular melintas didekatnya dan membuat Mah Bongsu sangat ketakutan. Namun, ular tersebut tidak menyerang Mah Bongsu. Ia berenang disekitar Mah Bongsu sambil menunjukkan luka-luka dikulitnya.

Mah Bongsu merasa kasihan. Ia membawa ular tersebut ke rumahnya dan mengobatinya.

Setiap kali kulit sang ular terkelupas, Mah Bongsu memungutnya dan membakarnya. Jika asapnya mengarah ke Negeri Singapura, tiba-tiba ada tumpukan emas dan berlian. Jika asapnya mengarah ke kota Bandar Lampung, berdatanganlah berkodi-kodi kain sutra dari Lampung.

Dalam waktu singkat, Mah Bongsu menjadi kaya raya. Penduduk sekitar merasa heran dengan kekayaan Mah Bongsu. Namun, Mah Bongsu adalah orang yang dermawan. Ia selalu membantu penduduk sekitar dengan tulus.

Kekayaan Mah Bongsu akhirnya diketahui oleh Mah Piah dan Siti Mayang. Merekapun berusaha mencari tahu darimana asal kekayaan tersebut.

Suatu malam, mereka melihat seekor ular dan tumpukan kulit yang sudah mengelupas dikamar Mah Bongsu. Mereka meyakini ular itu sebagai hewan ajaib yang mendatangkan harta bagi Mah Bongsu.

Ibu dan anak ini pun pergi ke hutan mencari ular. Mereka mendapati seekor ular berbisa. Mereka membawa ular itu pulang dan melepaskannya  di kamar Siti Mayang. Mereka berharap ular itu akan mendatangkan kekayaan berlimpah. Namun, yang mereka dapati adalah malapetaka. Siti Mayang meninggal dunia karena disengat oleh ular berbisa tersebut.

Sementara itu, ular yang dirawat oleh Mah Bongsu telah sembuh. Ketika Mah Bongsu akan memberi makan, ular itu berkata, “Malam ini, tolong antarkan aku ke sungai.

Mah Bongsu pun membawa ular itu ke sungai. Di sungai tersebut, sang ular berkata, “Mah Bongsu, sudah waktunya aku melamar kamu menjadi istriku...”

Mah Bongsu tercengang. Seketika, ular tersebut telah berubah wujud menjadi seorang pemuda yang gagah dan tampan. Kulitnya berubah menjadi sebuah rumah yang megah dan sangat indah. Kemudian mereka menikah dan hidup berbahagia.

Konon, karena kejadian itu, desa itu dinamakan Desa Tiban yang artinya ketiban rejeki. Sungai tersebut dinamakan Sungai Jodoh karena dipercaya sebagai tempat ketemu jodoh.
